Vitamin C: a powerful active ingredient against free radicals
THE free radicals are very reactive molecules that oxidize epidermis cells : we call this phenomenon the oxidative stress. The latter is one of the causes of accelerated aging of the epidermis. The vitamins C is a antioxidant molecule which is capable of neutralizing free radicals and slow the appearance of wrinkles. Indeed, upon contact, the oxidation of other chemical substances is slowed down or even prevented.
In addition to age, different factors can also stimulate the action of free radicals, such as pollution, stress, UV rays, alcohol, or even tobacco. They create incomplete reactions, which release free radicals in the body, and which cause what we call “oxidative stress”. THE cellular aging and the skin aging are therefore accelerated. It is to face this oxidative stress, that antioxidants are essential.
Vitamin C is anti-aging
And at vitamin C is so often found in cosmetic care, it is also because it has anti-aging virtues. In this sense, it finds its place in the mixed cosmetics, for men and women. It acts on the skin firmness, by stimulating the collagen production. Indeed, the latter is essential to elasticity and tissue regeneration, and ensures the skin its firmness. But with age, its concentration decreases: the skin relaxes and reveals wrinkles and fine lines. The vitamin C prevents the oxidation of collagen-producing cells, and restarts the production of this substance.
But that’s not all: vitamin C is also useful for to standardize the complexion. It inhibits the production of melanin produced at the level of melanocytes of the epidermis, in order to reduce the appearance of Brown stains which accompany the skin aging. Indeed, when melanin functions normally, it becomes pigmented in reaction to the sun. But with age, after solar exposures repeated, melanocytes can experience a disruption: melanin is then distributed unevenly, or overproduced in certain areas of the skin, which leads to brown spots. There vitamin C topical, by regulating the production of melanin, therefore helps you maintain a uniform complexion.
The different types of vitamin C
There are different types of vitamins C which are used in cosmetics. The most stable and efficient forms, besides ascorbic acid, are the sodium ascorbyl phosphate, l'ascorbyl palmitate, le retinyl ascorbate, le tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate and the magnesium ascorbyl phosphate. These forms derived from vitamin C are, however, more effective when combined with other powerful antioxidants and ingredients promoting cellular communication, such as green tea, retinol or even niacinamide.
Choosing the right vitamin C treatment
It is essential to specify that in the vitamin C care, quantity does not equal quality. The effectiveness of this active ingredient lies in the right dosage: the optimal concentration of the vitamin C is between 5 and 20%. Note that the topical vitamin C is not photosensibilisante : you can therefore apply it at any time of the day.
In order to benefit from reinforced action on the epidermis, opt for one vitamin C serum, which you will apply before your crème. Indeed, the slight molecular weight of serum allows it to act on the skin in depth. The cream, for its part, will provide comfort and maintain a level hydration optimal skin, for perfect elasticity and ideal radiance.
